Expanding Lives relies on volunteers who believe that small parts make great changes. Our fervent hope is that volunteering with our organization can expand the lives of more than just our Nigerien participants.
We rely on volunteer teachers with experience in their fields to conduct classes. However, we like to partner volunteer teachers with others who can help facilitate communication, put participants at ease, provide or teach transportation, or who simply have an interest in learning. If you have a skill (or want to learn one), have an open heart, and have a few hours a week during the summer, we will do our best to find a volunteer activity that will satisfy both our needs. |

Host families are needed to house two participants for 2 to 3 weeks in the summer. Families should have a spare bedroom and be willing to have a background check. We are especially looking for families with young children as we have found that children are most able to break the cultural and language barriers.

| Other volunteer opportunities include those for teenagers who are interested in acting as cultural liaisons, participating in social and cultural activities with the young women. These might include bowling, playing soccer, visiting museums. |

Working with the girls has been an incredible experience. Their interest, effort, and desire to learn is very motivating. But even beyond that, the courage and strength these women show has inspired me. They are learning from us, but we too, are learning from them. -Reine

Being involved in Expanding Lives reaffirms what is important in life. As cliché as it sounds - it's people helping people - which makes the world a better place. It's a small amount of energy tapping into a whole lot of beauty. -Kristi

Expanding Lives has changed my life. It's opened my eyes to all the opportunities that we have to make a difference in a person's life. Going in I was expecting to meet new people and learn more about Niger. I never expected to completely fall in love with the girls. They stole my heart. From the very first day they were open and willing to engage in any and all of the activities we presented them with. Despite being in a foreign country, thousands of miles from family, and living with perfect strangers these girls were able to open themselves to the entire experience. They have taught me so much - this entire experience is priceless. Through my work with EL I've realized that this is what I want to do in life. I want to continue to learn and touch the lives of others. I am currently planning on becoming a Peace Corps volunteer in the future. -Akshita
