“Expanding Lives has helped me understand what constitutes a leader. A leader isn’t just someone capable of giving direction, but a person who helps the group work well together, ensures that everyone is treated fairly and given equal opportunity, and motivates the team towards a certain goal. In working with EL I not only gained the professional skills of a leader, from organization to effective communication, but also developed them as a member of the Associate Board in supervising high school interns, corresponding with the Senior Board, and managing the gift wrapping fundraiser. EL has provided me with the opportunity to grow professionally and prepared me for future endeavors.”

Alankrita began volunteering with Expanding Lives in 2009 and was on the Associate Board from 2011 to 2015. In 2014 she joined Expanding Lives for a summer conference in Benin and helped EL alumni explore international opportunities. Alankrita currently lives and works in Chicago and will be starting medical school at Rush Medical College. She hopes to continue contributing to Expanding Lives throughout her life.
